Sue Thompson has been an instrumental figure in the fight for justice for victims of gay hate crimes in NSW. She became the ‘Police Gay/Lesbian Client Consultant’ in 1990 after the murder of a close friend where she experienced first-hand the treatment of gay hate crime victims and their friends. For the next 12 years she set up, designed and ran Police Gay/Lesbian Liaison, established GLLOs (Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officers), researched hate violence and murders and assisted national and international police and agencies to target hate violence and improve LGBTI relations. Today, Sue continues to advocate for the safety of the LGBTQ community and for justice on historical hate-related crimes.
